why am I getting a slight delay before ignition sometimes.
I fire a couple of 209's before I load for hunting and have done a good swab out before also, but every once in awhile I get a split second delay from primer to powder. what gives.........?

Hangfires. Your breech plug is fouling. Even when you run a spit patch down the barrel, some of the crud is forced into the orfice. With a the ramrod & patch seated against the plug barrel, snap a cap. the ram rod will jump a bit, but the fouling should adhere to the patch.

Small pieces of black powder trickling back into the breach nipple channel will also slow down ignition noticable. I have this problem when using Light loads of FFFg powder in a 45 caliber rifle. If I use FFG, it goes away.
It could also be a fouled nipple channel.
Just a suggestion, when you are loading, push the ball or bullet down until it firmly seats against the powder, resist the urge to tamp with the ramrod.
or switch to pyrodex pellets, just remember to clean as pyrodex fouls less but leaves a more corrosive residue.
