Need to get a sling for my new 870 ExP tac, this gun will be used for run n gunning and bear defense. What would be the beat sling for these applications?

I would go with a 1.25" single strap nylon sling made from fairly heavy material. If the gun is going to be used as a life saving tool, you don't want a bunch of straps getting in your way, so keep it simple.

Agreed, Blackhawk makes a very nice single point sling. It has a small amount of bungee within the strap, so it gives a bit when moving, running etc...

If you go with the above posted sling from BFG, just make sure you already have the adaptor, or buy it. Otherwise if One Shot has any BFG Anacondas you could go with that as well, similar style. I second single point slings as I found 2 points just get in the way, for shotguns anyway. If you do find that you might want to sling it over your back from time to time, you could go with Magpul's convertible 2 to 1 point sling. Check out "blaxsun", he is a Magpul dealer here on this forum.

I'm looking for a sling to do double duty as well. I'd like to find one that I can swap back and forth between my two fixed stock 870s. I've also seen a couple that have shell holders on the side of the buttstock that could also transfer. Anyone have any experience with such a sling? Without the shell holder I was looking at a Viking Tactics sling.

I was looking at those Magpul convertibles. The clips appear to be pretty beefy - any idea which sling adapters might work with those clips?

The ones Magpul make for this sling on AR's have pretty big rings.

Yes they're designed for sling plates with the ring on them. They might clip into a loop style sling plate, but even so there probably won't be much play.

Ya a 2 point that converts to single might be best, not looking to spend a fortune or buy a bunch of after market attachments beside the single point attachment. I'm a little lost i know nothing about slings but the ones they sell at canadian tire lol.

The VTAC sling is real nice, I had the padded/wide version. Unfortunately I got rid of it because with the buttstock adaptor I found it kept getting bunching up in my armpit and got real annoying real fast.

Waste of money for your needs in my opinion, just keep it simple. Try the BFG SOC-C base sling at One Shot Tactical.

well i was just thinking, that soc-c comes with no attachments so i would have to buy at least one for just single point, that would make it 35$ for both with the sale price. For a extra 15$ gives me so many more options down the road if i need for other guns. Or does the soc-c base come with any attachments?

Yes. I very reluctantly parted with the VTAC and ended up with a BFG Anaconda sling. It's an adjustable bungie style single point sling. One Shot Tactical carries them. Very wide and comfortable and holds the weight of the shotgun pretty well. Nothing that gets in the way of handling the shotgun, whether it's shooting or loading. I had also tried rigging up the 2 point sling "patrol style" like you would on a C7/AR15 in that one loop runs through the front post sight and the other over the buttstock, so that when slung, the weapon is upright, something not really possible with a shotgun as front sling plates are made for the sides and bottom as I quickly discovered.

This is the lowest it hangs with 6 rounds in the sidesaddle, my hand is not applying downwards pressure

And this is how it attaches to the gun, via quick release fastex buckle and single point sling
