I need a sling for walking long distances with a scoped bolt action. I am not fond of the standard strap style. they always fall off the shoulder at the worst possible time. I want it for climbing hills and stuff. I thought of something like the biathalon shooters use but it would be hard to carry a pack. What is out there? What do you guys use? Tactical patrol hang it around your neck in front junk need not apply.

I use a Butler Creek alaskan magnum sling. It's very lightweigth, cordura with a spongy neoprene shoulder part. It gives in your shoulder, very comfortable, light and functional. I bought mine at Canadian Tire for about $30 including swivels.

One of the guys I moose hunt with uses a P17 Enfield on a sling mounted across his chest. He never removes the sling to shoot, just swings the gun up into action. A P17 is a heavy awkward rifle for walking in dense bush, but he has no problem with his sling.
I have a problem though, I can't remember the F*cking name of it.

how about this? $100 from Cabellas. took me 30 seconds to find.

Lol.. me too.
But he doesnt want a sling that goes on his shoulder or one that hangs infront of him. So, it leaves us with almost no options to help him out.

I would love to standing with a video camera 50 feet behind a guy wearing that contraption when a deer-moose-elk stepped out.

+2. :D

As many old timers have said...
"If the rifle is not in your hands then you are just out for a hike."
:D

The NFA site had a sling featured that looked really good.
Sorry I forget the name of it also.

Don't worry about the deer, I would pay money to watch what happens when one of your big, hairy, bitey buggers gets inquisitive.

I would want to be much further than 50 feet away from a guy trying to pull a loaded rifle out of that thing in a hurry!

I use the Butler Creek slings too.

When I have to go over tough terrain, I unclip my pack chest strap, slip it over the sling and then clip it back on. Works well

I have a friend that has one of those safari slings that hang in front of your chest, they suck if you are trying to climb a rock or a steep bank. A shoulder sling is what I am after but I was thinking of something with a strap across the front. Does nobody on here hunt goats or sheep? Or anything that you have to walk through thick brush or climb for? I carry my rifles "indian style" ( no offense to any indians out there) in the crook of my arm in thick brush. It gets very tiring after a long time and you tend to fidget around too much.
