Sling options for Remington 887?

Short story: I'm looking for a way to use a single-point sling on a Remington 887 Nitro Mag Tactical but I can't figure out what options I have (if any). Can I use an 870 sling plate between the stock and receiver?

Long story: I took an 887 Nitro Mag to a tactical shotgun course run by OSTS earlier this year, and despite the funny looks I got for not using an 870 (I do have a Norc clone), Mossberg 500, or Fabarm, I really liked it ;) After the course I had a pretty wicked screwed up right shoulder, which I attribute to holding the gun awkwardly muzzle-down half the day more than I'd say the recoil did it. My right shoulder is generally messed up, so it wasn't surprising. That said, a single point sling would be really nice to have so I could just drop the gun and let it hang. I've done research, but some forums suggest that 870 stock adapters will fit an 887 no problem, and others point to the exact opposite. If true, it would suggest that an 870 sling plate would fit an 887. Has anyone here given it a try? I like my 887 a lot more than my ripoff 870, so I'd like to build it into my go-to shotgun if possible.

If it won't work, what are my options? Can I effectively use a single point sling with the more traditional sling mount on the bottom of the stock, or am I SOL with the 887?

Disclosure: I have never tried a single point sling, but my compatriots on the same course all seemed to be using them to great effect.

Glad to see someone else that uses a 887................I have used mine for years and prefer it over either the 870 or 1100.

I have just the std carry sling on mine.

just buy one of the $10 870 ambi sling plates from ebay and give it a try.
worst case if its not a 100% fit, break out a file or a dremel and modify the receiver side of the sling plate. i made a 12 - 20 gauge stock adapter from one of these.

you can buy more expensive adapters, of course, but id start with one of the cheapies first :)

May be the way to go with it, I guess. I have found one AR stock adapter than is claimed to fit both, but I've never seen it actually done so I'm wary of that. Thanks gents....I'll post back with what I learn.

Not looking good so far - took my 887 stock off tonight and compared it to a Norc 870 stock. Totally different design. See photos below.

there is another option
im not familiar with the 887, but it looks like it has receiver pins that drift out like the 870.

if it does, the mesa tactical hook loop adapter is an option:

not trying to piss in your cornflakes, but this is why i stick to the 870 :p

Hmm, that may work out...it does have pins which drift like the 870. Thanks, didn't know those existed.

As for the 870 vs 887, I went into this with the full knowledge that aftermarket parts would be scarce. I like my 870 as well, there's just something about the 887.... :)

That led me to this, might be low profile enough to sit on the rail behind my sight, but I'll have to see where the balance point of the gun is...and think about the likelyhood of ripping the top rail off my gun by hanging it's weight on it:

Is a sling adapter likely to get caught at the border? I was recently bitten by the "firearm accessory" customs import license requirement for a red dot.

i doubt youll have probs with the adapter at the border. since its ~20 you likely wont even pay duties.

i would not hang the gun by the top rail - that sounds like a really bad idea. there are usually tiny, short screws holding the rail on, and half that receiver is plastic. also, the side sling loop on that will put a lot of twist on your rail, making it even more likely to fail. that thing is likely designed more for integral rails than for light-duty bolt-ons.

Yeah, I know that's not what it's intended for. May be out of luck with the Mesa option as well. Pins appear to be of a smaller diameter than they are on my 870.

you could simply fab your own. they seem to have some sortof sleeve/bushing for the bolt? make sure you arent using mild steel bolts, and be sure to add a washer underneath to protect your plastic :p im sure someone who has even a basic workshop can make something for you.

you could also contact badboybeeson or casey at tacord, im sure they could work up something custom for you. or post this in the gunsmithing section - a lot of really helpful friendly people there.

if youre on a budget just use a piece of webbing cinched around the grip, or do something IDF style with paracord.

Blue Force Gear UDC sling with Universal Loop. ;)

Got the same suggestion when I emailed the store :)

Just wondering about the mounting options...M16 fixed stock adapter, swivel adapter on the molded plastic hardpoint on the stock (about 10 inches north of the traditional mounting point when hung muzzle-down)? I'm new to slings, not sure what my best options are here in terms of utility and durability.
