I own a single point sling plate identical to this one: https://www.sjhardware.com/product/rem-870-sling-plate/

It's been installed on my mid-2010s 870 Express for a while, but I just upgraded to a mid-1990s 870 Police. The sling plate seems to be too small to fit on the Police receiver.

Has any one else run into this issue? I had expected the receivers to be the same size but it doesn't seem to be the case. Should I just try to force the plate on there with a mallet, or are there police-specific plates available?

Thanks in advance for the assistance.

If the plate is too small why would you need to force it in place? How much of a difference do you think there is? Maybe the parkerizing is a bit thick compared to the black oxide finish of the Express?

Sorry, you're totally right; I meant the end of the receiver where the stock bearing plate goes is too small and the sling plate is too big...

The difference isn't much and it could be the finish, but my first impression was that I was going to have to take a metal file to the sling plate to make it fit. I'd like to avoid damaging the finish on the part and the receiver if possible. Maybe I'll give it another try this weekend.

Thanks for the response!

Update: finally got around to trying to install sling plate again. This time I made sure the receiver and part were both well coated with gun oil, then tapped the sling plate with a plastic mallet and was able to snug it in there. Definitely enjoying the way the firearm hangs out of the way from the single point sling, making transitions to sidearm much less awkward that a two point. Thanks for everyone's help with this.
