The interface between my side and frame is beginning to feel a little sloppy. Is there any way to correct this myself? It's a S&W 639, still in overall good shape, I've put about 2,500 rounds through it and I'll bet the previous owner did at least the same.

It is probably fine as-is. If it functions correctly and is not grossly inaccurate, I would leave it alone.

Barrel fit to slide is far more important for accuracy than slide to frame fit and a mass-produced gun like a S&W 639 isn't going to be fitted like a custom 1911, anyway.

One method to tighten up the fit of frame to slide is to build up the rails on the frame with silver solder, then file and stone it down until you have a nice fit. That might be what you are looking for.
