I noticed that the Slovak army is still using the vz58 as it's main battle rifle, I wonder when they'll be upgrading them and surplusing them ? The Czech Republic has already done this and upgraded to the Cz 805 Bren hence all the vz58s that have come in over the last decade. It'd be awesome to have another swell of surplus vz58s and parts come in..

Slovakia is one of the most successful of the former East Block countries, with huge foreign investment.

The economy is projected to remain robust, growing 3.3% in 2017 and 4.1% in 2018, led by persistently strong domestic demand. The strengthening labour market and rising incomes will further raise household consumption. Unemployment may fall to near 7½ per cent in 2018, the lowest level since independence. Exporters are projected to continue to gain market share, allowing the current account to reach a modest surplus. Consumer price inflation is expected to rise gradually, as energy prices pick up and the labour market tightens.

The government appropriately intends to reach a balanced budget by 2019 to maintain the soundness of the public finances. In order to finance much needed inclusiveness-friendly reforms, the government should continue to enhance tax collection and improve public sector efficiency.

Large FDI inflows have helped integrate the Slovak Republic into global value chains and boosted exports and productivity, resulting in one of the OECD's fastest growth rates in the past decade. However, the benefits of growth have not been equitably shared. Therefore, there is a need for education, health care and labour market reforms to make growth more inclusive, particularly for the Roma population and the long-term unemployed.

Back on topic... yeah, "I want that" :)

Interesting - thanks for posting Kurgan. I reckon there will be a ton of spare parts available shortly....

I did a quick comparison of economic stats of the two countries before I posted above and i must say, czech stats at a glance is a lot better, much higher GDP per capita, half of the unemployment rate and governments debt is 37 vs 52% of GDP.

and yet, czech chose to take their time to replacing their vz58, they are projected to be finish in 3 years but now the military got a big increase so they are spending again.

If you drive a German car, you're driving both Czech and Slovak parts, with a German label. Almost all of their growth is due to German car makers, it'll continue until the Germans manage to move production to Ukraine.

That's not necessarily a bad thing. I drive a 2012 BMW 328i (premium pkg, executive pkg, lighting pkg) and is Munich made. If there are a few parts made in other successful former Eastern block countries, it's a hell of a lot better than key parts made in Asia--been there, done that, never again. Ever use Meopta scopes? :) For the record, I went over my car from bumper to bumper, and the hid lamps are made in UAE... where the hell is that? United Arab Emirates !! Bloody hell, what is the world coming to? Other than that, with the exception of some electrics, she be all Euro-made. :)
