Slug Barrel for a 870 SPS

Hello All! I recently bought a 870 SPS turkey magnum and I'm very happy with it. However when I wanted to purchase a slug barrel for this gun, the gentleman at the gun shop informed me that this model cannot be fiited with a standard 870 slug barrel because the receiver is different on the turkey magnum than a standard 870. Is this actually the case, or is the salesman wrong? Has anyone fitted their turkey magnum with the new Remington cantilever barrel? Thanks for reading my post and all responses greatly appreciated!

I think the receivers are the same. Try a different gun store or at least a different sales person. Maybe you could bring your gun to the store and ask to try the barrel and see for yourself if it fits?
 
an 870 super mag will accept any 870 barrel that i've ever tried, and that's a lot. one was even a barrel from a 1973 870 wing master. he may have been trying to tell you , that a 3.5 " mag barrel wouldn't work in a regular 870 because the ejector port is too small to eject a 3.5" empty.
