slug gun scopes

What magnification and objective size do you guys prefer on your slug guns? Any model recommendations? I'm looking to mount the scope directly on the reciever with a weaver style mount, not a saddle or cantilever mount.
 
My dad has the same scope on an old 340 Savage in 30-30. I agree the optics are decent enough, especially for the money, but I was concerned how it would stand up to recoil. Do you have an approximate idea of how many rounds you have put through your gun with that scope on it?
 
I have an old model bushnell 6X on mine. I bought a variable leupold for my 270 this year but seem to always have it set to 6X anyways.
 
I've had an old Weaver, Steel K-4 on mine for 14 Years. Reasonably priced, and they take the recoil. I've thought about replacing it, but it ain't broken, so why fix it. Old K-6 might be a little better, but the deer I've shot with it or should I say the Mossberg 500, K-4, Remington Sabot's combo, havn't noticed the diff. Longest shot has been about 110 yards. This year I plan to try the newer (1900 fps ) slugs. Havn't yet because I had a supply of the old Rems which work just fine. With the increased velocity and range, and demminshing eyesight, a little more power may be in order.
 
Power means nothing if you have no control. You have to see the target before you can shoot it, IMHO. That being said, I've used the Bushy 1-4x32 Banner, A bushy scopechief 3-9x32 and a Bushy trophy red dot on my guns. All scopes have a different purpose. the 3x9 is for open fields and long range. The red dot is for thick brush/mixed swamp areas and the 1x4 is for a mixed bag of areas where the watching/dogging duties are alternated. I shoot strictly slugs (Brenneke) and sabots (challengers) for deer.

Edit-I know that the Challengers aren't sabots, but they are the most accurate out of my rifled slug barrel and the Brenneke's group best out of my smoothbores. -J

On my Remy M-870 slug-gun,I've chosen the Bushnell 3200 1.5x4.5 Firefly which was a great combo in a successfull deer hunt during a "controlled" 2 day hunt.The controlled hunt means it was a 2 day only,muzzleloader or shotgun hunt in area 94B just south of Windsor,On. The shot that made the difference and literally dropped a 1 1/2 year whitetail was at a paced 135 yards.Out of 4 shots taken were 2 hits just under the spine,the last which was the finisher.Admittedly I had a little help in that the barrel was a Hastings cantilever 24" fully rifled that gave reasonalbly good grouping.The "firefly" aspect really made the deer stand out as it was near quitting time with only about 10 minutes of legal hunt time left.Absolutely satisfied with this combo.
