does it have to do with the number of chokes or something?

thanks in advance.

An actual "slug" gun has a rifled barrel, where as standard shotguns have smoothbores and shoot birdshot and slugs made for smooth bores. Some smooth bore barrels have iron sights such as the one I have for my 870. I can shoot birdshot or slugs. You cannot shoot birdshot out of a rifled barrel shotgun, it only shoots sabot slugs made for rifled shotgun barrels, ie; "slug gun".

To your most recent question yes, just be aware that some companies call a smooth bored barrel with iron sights a slug barrel. This is more common among European and Turkish gun makers. Just be aware when shopping so you can get exactly what you want.

Thanks guys. So that means you could have two barrels for one gun and change them out depending on the needs of the, because the only diffrence is the barrel right?

thanks again.

Yes. Mossberg and Remington both sell combos. Usually a 28" smooth bore with chokes a a rifled slug barrel, either open rifle sighted or cantilever style.

Remington sells them for the 870. Not sure you can get more common then that.
