slug recommendation

Try lightfield they have some impressive numbers.

I am not sure if yours is rifled barrel that will be best but since you mentioned for grizzly protection and I assume it will be a relatively close range as I don't think you feel the creature is a threat to you if it's over 100 yards away so I think the will still give you decent accuracy.

If your 870 is a 3.5" chamber they have something with a ME close to the 458wm level at over 4700 ft lbs and if the 458 can stop anything dangerous game in Africa (I understand different bullet design for penetration). But a 600gr lead at 1890fps has tremendous stopping power and will do serious damage.

Brenneke would be #1, but very hard to find in Canada. Rottweil has some facimilies, but not easy to locate either.

Next best would be Federal 'Deep Penetrator' slugs: elemental lead alloyed with antimony for increased hardness.

Next choice would be Kent slugs, the '10-point' or 'Five Star'. Very similar to a 'Thug Slug' design and has some pretty screaming velocities.

Thanks for the links. Nice to know you can get them local. Likely won't be doing too much target practice with them though...those Rottweil are a little spendy at $4 per bang! :)

I've heard they will punch holes through brake rotors and penetrate over 30 inches of big game, whereas a typical foster slug will pancake and disintegrate offering less than 12" penetration...so I'd say it's worth it. YMMV.
