I have an M37 Ithaca Deerslayer Police Special.
A few years ago I used it to take a wild boar at 75 yards, at Wild Boar Adventures in North Battleford. (yes, a canned hunt on 120 acres)
Prior to going on this 'hunt' I probably burned off, about 30 Super -X Winchester 2 3/4 inch, foster slugs and about 20 Brenneke Classic Rottweil slugs at the range with this nicely accurate Ithaca shotgun.
I ended up using the Brennekes with no complaint, and a single slug was all I required. My observation is this though regarding the slug sights.
I found that the LAPD style patridge rearsight appeared to be zeroed for 25 yards. I guess it was designed for regular street shootout engagements, that a police officer might find himself in. The rearsight is fool-proof as it is non-adjustable & very sturdy. The front sight is a highly visible tapered triangle, and is made from a kind of light gathering reddish colored acrylic material.
I did find though, my 2 3/4 inch 1 1/8 ounce, 12 gauge Rottweil Classic slug, dropped about 6 inches from the line of sight, at 75 yards.
Thankfully I was well aware of this beforehand.
Anyone else find the same issue with thier police style, slug shooting shotguns?
