slug vs shot

I'm considering reloading shot-shells.
Looking around for info I could find a plethora of powder/primer/wad/hull recipes for 1oz of shot yet only a few for 1oz slug.
What is the difference? 1 oz is 1 oz.
Am I missing something?

Well alright, I'll ask you a question then, will both fit in the same wad/hull? If not, they are not the same, you need to look at each individually. Is the slug load meant for use with conventional plastic wads or without?

I think Lyman sells a mould for cast slugs. If they are in the business, they ought to have an answer for you.
