Does anyone have suggestions for slugging barrels, I plan on doing rifles and pistols. So far what i have found is.....
1)use a soft lead
2)Use a brass rod to "tap" slug through bore
3)lube is friend.

is a ww lead soft enough?
does it matter witch end I start from? I assume chamber end where possible.
any other suggestions?

The idea of pounding on my firearms just does not seem right. What do you guys do?

Pending how many barrels you want to slug I would find some black powder/ musket round balls. A bit larger then you expected diameter. Eg .360 for a .358 bore. However some say round projectiles aren't the best as you don't get enough rifling imprint.

I have always used round balls, and cannot complain about the results.
Good Idea to use 3 slugs, one to push completely through the bore,
one to push into the muzzle about 1" and then push back out
third one into the throat about 1" and push back out....this gives the complete picture.
The only time measuring your "slug" becomes a problem is when you have 3 groove or 5 groove rifling.
Then you need a special jig to properly measure your slug.

I slugged my mosin the other day, read some tutorials and watched some videos, I went ahead and did it with a piece of 00buck shot (just cut one I had open) and several pieces of dowel cut to about 7" (easier to tap through 7" pieces rather then wrestle with a ~30" piece of rod)
I retrieved my slug and realised I forgot to lube the piece pf shot before hand.... ooops, after the first 4-5" I could just push the shot out by hand the mallet wasn't needed any longer.
