slugs or 00 buckshot

I've gutted a lot of deer killed cleanly with rifle, buckshot, slugs, and sabots. They all work if used properly. I think the issue with buckshot is the fudd type hunter than doesn't pattern his gun, and has no real idea how far it can shoot, or where the pattern will land. Myself I have killed two deer with buckshot. It's not my personal preference, but it worked, and both deer died under 50 yards. I've gutted many more, as I hunted with a few Fudds. Aim for the vitals, don't just point at the deer, keep it close, and buckshot will work.

54gr 00 buck pellet at 1300fps makes it no problem you don't need to dump a billion tons of energy to kill a deer you also don't need to turn organs into jello but putting holes in both lungs will make any animal stop even if a few pellet to make it all the way through they don't need to that's why you have more then one pellet.

I've never every went out with a idea of dumping tons of energy into a deer i used a .303 with a 210gr soft point not moving much over 1300fps more then once ive also used 7.62x39 from a sks with no problems and twice ive used a shotgun with buck both 00 and 0000

I'd take a .303 or a 7.62x39 over buckshot ANY day of the week. By way of comparison a 215gr bullet a 1300fps has 400% more energy and almost 400% moremomentum than the 00 pellet.

At any rate we can agree to disagree. I base my feelings on when I saw the penetration on two deer that my brother shot on Quadra Island with 00 buck. I was using archery equipment. Mind you both deer died...but both were shot at about 15 yards or so. Niether one of us was impressed. He left the shotgun at home after that and used archery equipment also.

As to the OP's question, in my view slugs are superior to 00 for big game.
