Slugs out of an 88 Maverick.

Can you shoot 3 inch magnum slugs out of a Mossberg 88 Maverick?

Yes...that's what I have used in mine.

As mentioned check on the barrel.
Also be ready as these shotguns are really light so the recoil is going to be allot.

look on the barrel, it will say the max length of shell you can shoot.
if it says 3", then yes you can shoot 3" magnum slugs
I put one of those heat shields on my barrel I can't read what it says on the barrel. I'm too lazy to take the shield off.

I do believe that some of the older mavericks had a 2 3/4 inch maximum shell length.
Either shoot 2 3/4 slugs out of it or check the barrel.
You "MAY" get away with shooting a 3 inch shell in a 2 3/4 shotgun, but in all likely hood it will eventually catch up to you and something bad will happen

If your maverick has 2 action bars instead of one then it is a newer one.

Those heat shields are not hard to take off and put back on...for the sake of playing with one bolt you could find out what yours shoots...just in case.
