Do small base dies only push the shoulder back a little more or do the reduce the other dimensions on the brass also.

If they only push the shoulder back, can the same thing be achieved by taking a little bit off the top of the shell holder?

I have a Semi that will only chamber about 2/3 of my reloaded ammo and I have bought small base dies for other firearms before but I already have a die set and was wondering if there was a way to use it instead of buying another set of dies?

Thanks Todd

They full length resize the whole case by a few thou more than a regular FL die.
"...only chamber about..." Your sizing die an FL? Set up properly?
You don't have to buy a whole set of dies. You can buy just the SB or FL sizer die.

Normally, small base dies push the shoulder back .002" and, as the name implies, resize the base more than standard dies. They're intended for reloading for semi-autos, pumps and levers.

I use small base dies to resize once-fired range brass, either for the same caliber or for fireforming ( i.e. 308 Win to 358 Win or to 7mm-08).
