Small Calibre

I think the discussion still comes down to the purpose of the rifle, which can be defined as shooting paper or shooting live targets, and those topics are covered under the current format without the necessity of having a subsection for each bore size. Consider all the .375 threads that have recently popped up. Do we need a medium bore section to cover them, plus a big bore section, plus a small bore section, plus a sub bore section when the discussions primarily concern: who makes what, which bullet is best for white-tailed deer, what rate of twist best stabilizes which bullet, or what group size can be expected at any given range? That being said a dangerous game section might prove interesting for those who never get enough bear defense threads.

That makes sense. Any idea how get more smaller calibre/varmint discussion going?

Would it make sense to have a small calibre section? With so much choice now and so many wildcat rounds it would seem logical.

Sometimes we do things just because we can. You've worked hard, paid all the bills, and its time you do things for no other reason than you would like to do it. If a caliber is useful to you and you like it, then go for it. There is no reason to justify it.

Yeah, I'd love to be 50 yards from a grizzly bear heading in my direction with a .223...I'd feel sooooo safe and confident! Nothing wrong with a .223 for deer at shorter ranges, however, if you can't get your hands on a .243 or larger...

I think in this forum, varmint cartridges fit best in the Precision section. Varmint shooting (especially gophers) requires a very high level of accuracy -- not unlike precision target shooting. Minute of whitetail or moose is a different game.
