Working on a number of my rimfires for the grouse and bunny season and want to try out a small, fixed power scope, say 4 or 5 power.
Will be experimenting with a number of rifles, Remington 597 mag, Ruger 10/22, Henry Levers ( 22 and 22 mag ), TOZ 98, Little Badger, want to keep the cost reasonable and then if I like the concept, use the scope on one of the less used rifles for Son In Law to use and upgrade to a high quality one later for me.
Any ideas / suggestions. Looked at a little Skorpion, size was perfect but the reviews really sucked.

Vomz 3.5x20 scope - will withstand any abuse, and is a great optic for the money.

The Mosin PU reproduction scopes can also be had inexpensively, and are, again, built "Russian Stronk"

Both are built to withstand bolt action 54R rifles, so nothing you do to them is going to break them. Small, lightweight. I don't actually have one of the PU scopes, so won't comment deeply on that, other than I know several people who use them on rimfires and are really happy with them.

The PO scope from Corwin-Arms I have on my Papoose and I just love it. Super clear optic and easy to aim. Almost the definition of a compact scope.

Both are 25.4mm or 25.5mm external diameter, so to save you doing the math, yes... That's perfect sized for 1inch standard rimfire rings.

You will want a true rimfire scope, or something with a/o. Centerfire scopes wi have a 100m parallax and won't work well with a rimfire at short distance unless it has a/o.

Nikon has a Rimfire 4x32mm for about $135. They also now come with Lifetime Warranty. I think P&D has stock when I checked last week.

For under $40 the fixed 4x Simmons 22mag scope hasn't failed me yet. Even comes with a set of rings. Good enough for my plinker….ymmv

I may have a cheap 4X centerpoint that was on a air rifle for you. Good enough for you to test the concept. Just PM me if interested. On my side i will use a Sightron SIH 1.75-4X32mm on my Brno 581 for grouse.
Good luck.

I second that. I use it on my Henry Frontier .22 and it works well enough to let me do 2 MOA at 50m from a benchrest (and with bulk ammo).

I have several of the Simmons .22mag scopes, fixed 4x32, 3-9x32, and just picked up the 3-9x32A/O with target turret. They work fine, have good eye relief, good for short range rimfire shooting. Just shop around as the prices vary a lot...should be around $40 for the 4x, $50 for the 3-9, and $70 for the A/O....give or take $5.

I prefer a variable 2-7X33 on my small game rimfire rifles... (some wear 3-9X40 and 4-12X40), 2X, 3X & 4X are nice for bunnies in brush and when you go hunting grouse eyeballs at 40-50 yards you will appreciate the extra power... I have never felt handicapped with a variable, the way I have on occasion with a fixed scope... there are plenty of compact variables.

Fitco scopes. They're cheap but they work. I have a 4 and 6 power. They're no ziess but they were $12 and $16 bucks. The 4x held up on my 3.5" 12 ga for 2 turkey seasons. They have a whole line up of cheap scopes. For just plinking they work

My last .22 scope was a Bushnell Banner Dawn to Dusk shotgun/rimfire fixed 4x scope with a circle reticule and 50 yard parallax ,I think it was on sale for $69 .Optics are clear and bright, and the circle reticule with a cross hair centre is just about right for small game.I put it on a Norinco JW 15 which is very accurate
