So i came into a bunch of magnum primes that i want to use in my 40 s&w. Just did my first step on working up a load with these. I loaded one SPP & one SPPM in an empty case & test fired. Magnum was slightly louder but not much & I could not make out any muzzle flash with either. So im assuming a slightly hotter load on the magnum.
The big difference is the size of mark the firing pin left on the magnum. Its almost 1/2 as deep as on the SPP.
So im guessing they build them a little thicker to take the magnum pressures?
Left case is SPP right is SPPM

Im running a Beretta CX4 Storm with a seriously heavy hammer spring making for a heavy trigger but atleast it should set these magnums off every time. If i finaly get a trigger kit then i might have issues.
Just wish i had a chrongraph to see what if any these primers make for speed. I will be loading bottom end powder levels for my first test run for sure!

The thing to do with these would be to start low and work your way up when getting a powder charge sorted out. I wouldn't just substitute the magnum primers with a know load developed with regular primers.
