Just ran a Viper Bore snake through my brand new never been fired Rem700 sps Tac in .223 and a small puff of white powder emerged from the barrel pulling the last bit of the bore snake. Is this normal?

*note: the tiny little puff evaporated in the air

Thanks

If it evaporated I'd say that it was liquid based, gun oil or bore cleaner maybe. Did you run anything through the barrel before the snake? Was the bore snake dry? Was the snake ever used before? It could have been residue from it. Sorry, but I'm not sure if Rem coats their bores or not when new.
Someone else will be along shortly I'm sure. ;)

I ran a rod with a patch covered in Rem oil, then ran a never been used viper bore snake (dry). You might be right about the liquid base, i'm just curious as to what it was.

If you use any kind of fluid on a bore brush, you will often see a small mist or fog at the muzzle when the brush exits. (I still use #9)
I don't use a snake but I'd still say it was probably just some liquid mist from your gun oil. I wouldn't worry about it Wolf. Shoot it and have fun.
