I Have used a lot of primers, and a lot of different primers in my 45+ years of reloading. They have come from: Norma, RWS, Alcan, CCI, Federal, Remington, Winchester, Vihtavuori, Fiocchi, CIL and probably a couple more I cannot remember. Reliability has not ever been an issue with any brand that I can remember. I still have a quantity of CIL 8½ and 8½M large rifle primers that have been out of production for at least 25 years. These primers continue to work wonderfully well. As for accuracy, primers can make a difference, but not so that it is usually noticed in hunting loads. As one poster commented, in Long Range benchrest loads, it is more apparent. I do have a 220 Swift that shows a surprising loss in accuracy if I use a certain primer in it with IMR 4064. I have tried this several times with the same verifiable result, so I am convinced it is a unique issue. My 222 Remington seems not to care one whit which primer I use. It still will punch 5-shot, one ragged hole at 100 meters as long as I feed it 50 grain V-maxes or 50 Ballistic Tips or 52 Sierras. I prefer the WLRM or Federal 215 if I am igniting over 65grains of slow burning powder, but that is simply a personal preference. I believe that primers are very well controlled in manufacture, resulting in the dependability we have come to expect. Regards, Eagleye.
