Small Shipment Of Swiss Arms Rifles

Why they prohibit it again? I thought they were prohibited then they changed it to not prohibited?

Ya it's a total clu$terfu@&. Went from NR to prohibited then back to NR. Now if C-71 comes into force (which it looks like it will) they will once again be prohibited.

As to why, that's a long story that I won't get into in this dealers forum....

You will get a new prohibited license that only allows you to own and purchase swiss arms rifles and cz 858 rifles, you do not get to purchase any other (actual) prohibited weapons.

I think this isn't totally correct. You will only get a prohib license for the swiss arms, you would need to also own an 858 to get the prohib category for them as they are two different sections (12.12 & 12.14 I believe).

As for why they went prohib, that's because the dealer who first brought these into the country got pissed off that other dealers also started bringing them in, so he convinced the RCMP that all swiss arms rifles are in fact prohib due to being variants of a named prohib. Thus, under Canadian law they are prohib. Rather than changing the law, or removing the gun from the named prohib list, the Harper Conservatives added the ability for Parliament to make prohib guns NR. The liberals are removing said power, and removing the exemptions granted to the 858 and SAN rifles. Had the Conservatives done a better job at fixing this problem it wouldn't have been so easy for the Libs to change it back...

The 858 is a different story, but the outcome is the same. They're converted automatics, built on ex military receivers. That makes them prohib in Canada, Cons used same provision as above to make them NR, ect ect.
