Smallest, lightest 9mm?

Looking to get someone into pistols and am wondering what is the smallest and lightest 9mm you can get? They have small hands and find my 226 and 1911 too heavy. Yeah I know recoil will go up with lighter but they don't mind the kick. I'd be ok with something with a snub barrel like a 229 if the overall size and weight is low.

Any suggestions

Edit. Want restricted only, not prohibit.

not a 9mm but there is also the browning 380 1911. (it is 9mm short anyway.) basically a 3/4 sized 1911. very compact, and contrary to what many believe, you can find 380 ammo for only marginally more than 9mm.

Does it have to be 9mm? Lots of 22LR options out there that will meet your small and light requirement.

x3. I have shot them, and been tempted to get one, but can't seem to pull the trigger on it. I seem to keep getting sidetracked with revolvers. But it is the Schnizzle for a compact, extremely well made 9. The craftsmanship on them is second to none.

G19, S&W SD9 VE, Makarov in 9mm short, Sig p239 (all restricted with CDN length barrels protruding)

Sig p239 is a single stack, probably the slimmest grip of a Restricted 9x19. Bought one and regretted selling it. It's not that light though, all metal.
 
I would never wish my norc 213 on any serious shooter, but the fact is it's a slim gun that shoots pretty well. Someone new won't notice the stiff trigger or the invisible sights, but they will notice that it fits their hand OK and feels pretty good.

Some of the modern tokarev derivatives look a little chunkier on the web, but the original Tok platform is pretty comfy.
 
How about one of the Commander length 1911? Wolverine has an even shorter one - SAM Sigma? - with a protruding barrel.


Also - buy them some 5lb dumbbells ;)
 
It would help to know your budget. The Boberg is certainly interesting but $1400 ballpark vs $600-800 for most of the other mainstream 9mm options is a pretty hefty premium.

That .380 Browning might be an interesting choice that would seem to fit your parameters re weight and size.
 
The smallest non-prohib would be a HK P7 PSP/M8 if your prepared to pay the $ for one.
Exquisite engineering and quality and very reliable and accurate.
 
X2 on G19. I have small hands but gun works well. And it's light as hell . there was a model recently with a threaded barrel. Handled that one. So tempted to buy it.
