I got an FPC a couple weeks ago, and I cannot put more than 9 rounds in the mags. Either by hand or with a UpLula.
Is this typical? Have any of you found a fix?

I was able to get 10 rnds in on 2 of the mags. I didn't try on the 3rd mag as I was using it for snap caps to test cycling.

The new springs on the mags are very stiff, so manually push the follower a few times and it will loosen up and the 10th rnd can get it.

Limited capacity M&P magazines have had issues with being overly tight for a lot of years. You'd be within your rights to get them warrantied, but there's no guarantee the replacements would be any better. They err on the side of caution during manufacture, because making them too loose (allowing 11 rounds) is a huge legal problem. Correctly riveted 10/17 magazines tend to avoid this problem, since it's the design of the 10/10 magazines that causes the issue.

Leaving the magazines to sit fully loaded for an extended period will help. Leaving them sit fully loaded while inserted into the firearm with the bolt closed will help even more (use snap caps to do this legally).

The "best" solution that I found was trimming the feet of the magazine followers a very small amount. That's what was bottoming out in the magazines that I had problems with. You have to be very careful that you don't remove too much material, because if the someone could somehow wrestle an 11th round into the magazine, then you've accidentally made a prohibited device.

There should be enough room to get about 10.5 cartridges in the magazine without a huge effort.

All the S&W full size mags are like that. I trimmed a little off the springs but more importantly, file down the followers a little. They hit the retaining plate and prevent you from getting the 10th round in. Now I can get 10 rounds in and press that 10th round down maybe 2mm. Just enough to get a mag in the pistol and FPC rifle on a closed bolt/slide. No concerns of getting 11 rounds in. You’d have to take so much off the followers there’d be almost nothing left I suspect.

3 of my mags were from my old gen 1 M&P and 3 are new from my FPC. All mags are identical. I ran all 6 mags several times at a competiton on the weekend. All 100% reliable after my mod.

Thanks, exactly the type of solution I was looking for. I have a little Canada Day project! ;)

This is a timely thread for me. I can live with some of my mags holding 9; but holy hell I can’t deal with practically needing a sledge hammer to get a cartridge in ome. WhT did they do, make 3 different mags and one spring?

Sarge, just trimming the followers was enough for my mags. Reducing the spring length seems like it shouldn't be necessary (and can cause other problems).

I just got mine and holy cow are these mags tuff to load!!!!
I must have 30 M&P magazines for my pistols and these ones are nothing like them.
there were 3 of us at the range to test out this new PCC and all 3 of us were struggling to load the magazines.
