Smith and Wesson 460 recall

they made the guns being recalled in 06, but the site did not say when the recall was put out. for all I know the recall could have been yesterday. its the first I saw of it and just wanted to let the community know. just trying save someone from blowing their head/hands off.

Why would Canadians have to send their guns to the States? S&W has a factory authorized warranty repair centre in Canada.

When I was looking at buying a S & W 357 competitor last week I was told by an authorized s & w dealer, who owned a competitor himself. That when his went out of time he had to send it to the states because they do all the warranty work for the performance center models in the states. it took him six months to get his gun back.
 
From what I recall Smith and Wesson are taking some strange steps to eliminate all warranty repair they have going on in Canada. The local Winnipeg dude got shut down by them already.

Who was this "dude" you speak of?

Wortners and MD are still doing fine business. I just recently had a warranty job done on a 686. No problem.
 
Just got an email reply to an enquiry from MDC...they no longer do any S&W work. I'll try Wortners.

I did say in the enquiry that this was a revolver and I'm a civilian, so they couldn't help. I may have jumped the gun (please pardon the pun) and assumed that was everything. I know they supply for government contracts, so perhaps they do semi-auto work, at least for account holders.
 
MD Charlton doesn't do S&W work anymore because Murray D. Charlton left the company, and he is the S&W expert gunsmith. He's got his own shop going now but he's not an authorized warranty center for S&W (but by all rights, probably should be).

I sent murray my defective 629. He further sent it down to the states to get it fixed.

I dont know whats going on with s&w and their repair situation. Either way my gun is still out, and I was told I wouldnt have to pay for anything.

So I dont really see a problem.

I wouldn't worry. It is only the performance center guns that are affected by the recall; and only ones made back in 2006 or prior at that... They use a different barrel than the regular 460V.

If you really want one, you should buy one. They are great guns.

Own 3 S&W revolvers now, all from the performance centre. 686 plus, 629, & a 500.
