Smith and Wesson M and P first gen and second gen parts interchangeably?

I’ve got a first gen M&P40 and I’m wondering if a 2.0 slide will fit on it with some modifications? I’ve seen people put first gen slides on 2.0s after modifying and swapping a first gen slide release anyone tried the reverse? I want to get a couple different slides for my first gen (long slide and maybe a 9 mm slide) cause I can’t get a new frame and variety is nice, I figured being able to use a 2.0 slide will give me more options, any ideas if this will work before I start buying slides

I bought a long compensated CORE complete slide for a first generation M&P. From a store.
Had them check if it would work for me before I bought it. Said it would and it did.

Addition:
The factory S&W long slide I bought would fit both Gen 1 and 2.
It did not specify generation on the box. The store checked for me that it would work for an early gun.
Just to clarify.
