I'm a total newb to the AR15 game and am thinking about getting a M&P15 as my first AR. I figure that I can't go wrong for $700. Plus I can tinker around with it and figure out how things work before going "all in" on a more sophisticated model.

My question is this; I have a Vortex Spitfire 3X prism sight that I would like to stick on the rifle. Is the front sight post going to obstruct the view of the optic? If so, what options do I have to remove the front sight post?

That's it. Thanks for the help my dudes.

You can co-sight them. That's what I do with my optic. It's there but you align the reticle with the front post.

I have Eotechs and my AR's all have front sight posts. Red dots co witness the front sight as long as the correct riser is included. When you are looking through the optic you don't really notice the front site.

Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6x24 on my M&P, front sight is no problem, pretty much disappears at 3x. The Burris P.E.P.R. scope mount sits it as 1/3 co-witness.

According to the guys at Bullseye it's a 1/3 cowitness with that optic. So the irons will show up in the lower third of the glass, leaving the prism available for distance shots. I am getting the 1x version of this in the coming months. Great item.

I've got a burris 536 prism and I don't see the front site post at all, with my strikefire red dot I did.
