Smith and Wesson Model 13-3

That sucks, had a line on a cheap one in really good shape.... I guess you cant get a 12-6 easily hey?

I only saw it for a minute or two.... might be a 4.2 I hope anyways! But sure was short if you ask me... I measured real quick. But didn't know where to measure from...

That sucks!!! I was so pumped because I wanted a 357 so bad and it jst dropped in my lap!!

Sorry, but Science Math Facts have proven without those extra few millimetres, the person holding the gun becomes a murderer unless there is a "6" in the right place on their PAL. In short, you can't be trusted.

According to the Criminal Code (Part III S.84(1)) a Prohibited Firearm is (a) a handgun that (i) has a barrel equal to or less than 105 mm in length. Section 2 says the length of a barrel is (a) in the case of a revolver, the distance from the muzzle of the barrel to the breach end immediately in front of the cylinder.

What this means is you should open the cylinder and place something stiff and flat over the hole*, then insert a rod in the barrel to contact that surface, and mark the rod at the muzzle, to measure the depth that the rod went in the barrel (this is what a verifier will do). Practically you can take calipers and measure the span from the crown to the forcing cone.

If that length is up to 105mm, it is 12(6.1) Prohibited. If it measures any amount over 105mm (like 105,0001mm) then it is Restricted, as the Law says [exactly] 105 or less.

* That's what she said.

The method of measuring barrel length is to turn the cylinder so that the wall between chambers is centered in the bore (with the cylinder closed), run your rod down the barrel till it stops on the cylinder chamber wall, mark the muzzle end of the barrel, withdraw and measure.

That is the legal method of measuring a revolver barrel length.

A rifle or automatic pistol is measured from the muzzle to the closed bolt breech face.

Flash hiders, muzzle breaks and other muzzle attachments are not counted towards legal barrel length whether welded or threaded. Only the contiguous barrel is counted.

Always measure the barrels on S&W revolvers, they are all not uniform lengths, they were cut close to the factory specified length, but you will find they can meausure up to 1/8" longer or shorter, and I have a couple that are 3/16" longer than advertised.
I would not hold out hope on model 13's , most are 3"ers,too bad really also limits my S&W collection also!!!

Go to the S&W forum.com , you will find out more about S&W than you will ever be able to keep the info. in your head!

cheers Dale Z!

I've got a 4" 586, a 2-1/2" 686 and a 2-1/2" 19. I need a fixed sight example and one with a 3" barrel would kill two birds with one stone, so to speak.
