smith and wesson model 1500

Good enough rifle.

There was a recall on some of them as the gun would fire when the bolt was closed. Google this recall and see if your rifle was affected.

Otherwise, Ive had a few in different calibres and had nothing bad to say about them.

They are the same rifle/action as the Weatherby Vanguard, actually a Howa 1500, they are made by Howa Machinery in Japan.....a very good action if you get one with a decent trigger.....some are able to go to 3#'s or a bit less while still being safe,...others are not.

I like the action design,..in some ways they are better than a Rem 700...better extractor,...a one piece bolt and flat bottom receiver with integral recoil lug,....they were copied heavily from the Sako L61R/AV long action....drop a Weatherby Vanguard or Howa 1500 long action into a Sako L61R stock, or vice-versa and you'll see what I mean....they even copied the way the firing pin assembly is retained in the bolt.

Now, those who know me will know that I like Rem 700's....but, the Howa 1500/Vanguard, S&W 1500/1700 and Mossberg 1500/1700's some of the best rifles out there.....take a new Vanguard and put a Timney trigger in it and it will rival any Rem 700 ever made.....
