My older daughter called and asked what I think of the Smith and Wesson sd9ve. She is thinking of ordering one to keep in her truck. I personally do not know anything about them other than they are the low end of the Smiths semi auto pistol line. I shot the old Sigma's a while back and thought the trigger sucked. I believe this pistol is an upgraded sigma but not sure. I told her it should be a good truck gun but not a good carry piece. But that is not the intended purpose because she carries a LCR 357. She just wants something in the truck for when she is on the farm or to have around incase things get crazy while she is on the road. She does not want to put her Kimber or other gun in the truck to get beat up.

Highly doubt ANYONE up here has experience with that pistol as the barrel length is ONLY 4 inches and thus prohibited and NEW prohibited guns are not allowed.

My dad and his wife have one each (American citizens). I have shot them both - one with the Apex kit and one without. I really didn't like them. They were a fine budget heater for those that couldn't afford better but I would just get an M&P. It's far more gun for the money.

Thanks for the advice. Ill check them out. I think she was thinking of this gun as a beater because she was offered a heck of a deal. $220.00 nib out the door.

I did not know Canada had a barrel length restriction. That sucks. I love Canada but hope America does not follow your gun laws. I live in Texas but will be retireing in Alaska. That is the closes i can get to living in Canada with my retirment options. :)

Don't even trick us with that kind of pricing. Are you sure it's not $750? Haha! Welcome to Canada.

$220 is a VERY good price. Bud's Gun Shop shows them at $350- $335 w. free shipping, and Cabela's (US) is $349.00.

Booger, we not only have barrel length restrictions (<105mm, or just a hair under 4.15" is in the Prohibited Class, ie totally unobtainable unless you're grandfathered from before the New Idiots' Legislation came in c.1990) and no CCW (not a big deal up here) but we can't even carry a handgun in the bush, never mind in the back of the truck. I don't think you need to worry about the US following our gun laws (except maybe California, The State Where Everything is Known to Cause Cancer.) You'll be just fine in Alaska.

Okay, for $220 it's a hell of a gun. Tell her to get it. That price is only about $70 more than a Hi-Point, and it's much more gun than that.
