Smith Enterprises M14 mount

I was just on the Smith Enterprises site and saw that they have a M14 mount with Weaver (not Picatinny) grooves for $105 U.S. It's steel, and is apparently a re-issue of an earlier model they used to sell. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of this product? I'm looking to scope a Norinco M14s without mortgaging my house, and from what I've read here and elsewhere the aluminum mounts like the Marstar are a waste of time.

Any input would be appreciated.

I got mine that way. It was Picatinny though.
The same thing, but the contract # is different, so they can't sell them to Uncle Sam.
Don't buy one..... buy two.... hehe I can be had for copyright infringement now....
 
Exporting items from the US for an 'assault rifle' (m14 in US) is illegal without proper paperwork.

Since discussion of illegal activities is not allowed on this board, you'd be best to order from a Canadian supplier (if one exists).

The SEI M14 Weaver style scope mount is the best value for a side three point scope mount. It is marked SMITH ENT M-21. Years ago when this was offered the Weaver mounts were marked SMITH ENT XM-21. Both the old and the new Weaver mounts are made by conventional machining methods.

The USGI NSN marked Picatinny scope mount made by SEI is machined by the wire EDM method which drives up the cost.

My first reaction was that his price was a bit high considering the actual cost in the US. Then I thought about the time and hassle doing paperwork, as well as the cost shipping it up here, duty, and the cost shipping to me which is all covered in his price, not to mention saving 6 weeks of waiting.

Most importantly I thought about my need for instant gratification. I mean, I've had the rifle in the safe for 2 years, but now that it's gonna be scoped every second counts! :D

So I ordered it from him happily, and am awaiting confirmation that it's mine. Hopefully none of you buggers beat me to it, and I'll have it in time to take a deer with it. :cool:
 
Well I ended up with an ARMS 18 on the way from the excellent folks at Wolverine instead. That's the one I feel looks best on the rifle, but I've always been hesitant because of the occassional problem people have with it so low. I've already change my springs out to USGI so hopefully I'll be one of the lucky ones. :)

I put one of these on and mounted my scope in the quick release indexer mount and it works great. Make sure you have good rings, I had a cheap set walk off the base on me before I put the arms rings on.....
 
Thanks C&L, I plan to use Burris rings which are machined to very tight tolerances compared to others in their class. I'll look at upgrading to arms rings in the future but can't swing it at the moment.
