smith rifle barrels

Owned and have shot a mess of 'em, love 'em all!
Ron builds some of the finest barrels a person can have.
I have three in a gain twist , and one in a straight 1:8 twist.
All are extremely accurate from a target rifle point of view.

As an aside, when I went to get my Smith barreled 6.5WSM rechambered to 6.5WSSM, it was noteed by Mick McPhee that there was a full 4" of throat erosion in that barrel.
it was still shooting MOA, which is more than good enough for a hunting rifle, but not a competition rifle.
I find Ron's barrels do not foul as badly as some custom barrels do, but I don't think that is the gain twist but the quality of workmanship.
I have heard of a few "bad" barrels, just never seen them for myself.....

How many rounds do you think that took? One of these days I will have to run a scope down my 6.5-300win and see how much damage there is.

DON'T DO IT!!

I had a few chances top look down mine and refused.
The reason?
it was still shooting very well, even when we couldn't find the leade marks on the bullet, what I didn't know was not bothering me!
It was still doing well at 1,000 at tha point.
I DID know that it was eroding, and took that into consideration.
At 1,500 rounds it was printing 1/2" at 100 yards still, and for a sporting rifle I'll take it any day.

At about 2,200, it started to get strange, and I really wanted the 6.5WSSM anyway, so i sent it back to Rangesports Unlimted.
ONLY THEN did I find out exactly how far gone it was!

If I am hitting what I am aiming at, I don't care what the throat "looks like", I'm flingin' lead at the distances the rifle was made for!:D
