I know the 929 can't be fired without moonclips, my shooting bud has one, what about the 986, moon clips required ?.
I'm thinking yes because its a "rimless" cartridge, anyone know for sure ?

I've fired one...MUST use moons.

But that being said, you can go without clips and it will work.

Only down side, you'll need to bring a chop stick to poke the spent casings out of the cylinder.

And also there might be a headspace issue on some brands of 9mm or even more so with reloads...which will result in failure to fire.

Same as the 929, kinda figured that, none the less it is a beautiful shooting piece. Thanks !

Almost bought a 929, then decide for range shooting moons are too much trouble compared to 686.

You'll get light strikes if you're not using moon-clips on the 929.
I load up a bunch of MCs before hitting the range. Easy & quick to load/unload and keeps the empty casings together…..

I have both and can say the moons are faster to reload and pickup brass in matches.
I don't consider the 686 faster with speedloaders, but it's much easier to load single rounds old school for target practice.
I usually load about 40 clips for the 929 ahead of time so it's no biggie for matches or practice.

I still love both guns and find the 686 more accurate with 38 SPL Wadcutters.

I received my 929 'Micheluk' about 6 weeks ago and have to say that it is a wonderful pistol to shoot. Accurate and smooth. But it needs the moon clips. (8 shot) But it only came with 3. Can anybody advise where I could buy more, maybe a few dozen of them?

Thanks in advance.
