If anyone out there has an R8, I'd like your 2 cents. I haven't had a revolver in awhile and was thinking of getting back into wheel guns. Is the R 8 worth it, I may carry it instead of my Glock for armed duty. I had a 686 and really liked it. I would of course train with it as well. Thoughts?

I will offer the small bit of insight I have. I have a 929; my husband has an R8. I prefer the R8. It has better balance, and is much easier to clean than the 929. Is it worth the price? I'd probably say it was worth a couple hundred more than the 929.

my dad has one.
damn nice gun!

i was pretty surprised when he picked one up, i didnt see him as the matte finish wheel gun kinda guy.
but the gun is so nice and light and super tight.

I've got the TRR8 version and a 627 performance center stainless. I like both but the 627 would be my choice if I could only have one. Yes, harder to clean but the R8 and TRR8 have the odd sleeved barrel which on mine has come loose in less than a year. I have it in for repair/warranty now so we shall see how that gets resolved.

I love my R8 as a range gun, but I would not trust it as a duty gun.
I had to send mine in for warrany work because the barrel shroud came loose and I was getting light primer strikes. That was after only 400-500 rounds through it.
The gun came back from MD Charlton in just under 2 weeks. I was pretty impressed with that. However, I think a S&W Performance Center gun, especially at $1600-$1700 should be 100% reliable. Wouldn't trust my life to it.
