Hi All, I have a friend who has a Smith & Wesson Model 41 in good + condition. He thinks it's about 10 years old.
Any ideas on value?
Thanks,

I wonder how that gun would compare in value to a second generation Colt Woodsman, Match Target, in the same condition?

The second generation Woodsman was made from 1947 to 1955.
The last, third generation, was made in April, 1977.
My Match Target was made in 1948, according to serial number, and I have Three, original
colt magazines for it.

I think it's hard to compare them for a number of reasons..

First if it's still in competion, production and has good parts availability, I believe it may have a wider market and more perceived value.

If not then the value is driven mostly by it's collector value.

So a less than perfect 41 could be worth more than a less than perfect Woodsman etc. IMHO

A new Smith 41 is now about $1500.. that plays a part as well and cheap knockoff clones can drive the market down for the "Classics"

With a quick check, the 4 1/2" 3rd series Match Target I picked up a short while ago was made about 1963.

And, the S&W 5 1/2" Heavy barrel model 41 also recently acquired.

Sadly, it doesn't have the extendable front sight like the earlier one I had. While the 41 is still my preference of the two for formal paper punching, I believe a quick check of the Blue Book shows the value of the Colt to generally be about 50% higher than that of the S&W 41.

You make it tempting.. I love these Classic pistols that shoot well
