I have an opportunity to buy a S&W model #52-1.It is in 38 special and is designed to fire wadcutter loads. The mags are only 5 round. I know its not very common and I have no idea if what he is asking for it is fair or not...The gun is absolutely mint. For what I understand ita a very accurate pistol. Can anyone help me please?

Thanks. Steve.

Very nice S&W , the last one I bought was mint with box and papers, $1000.00. It is one of the very best bullseye pistols you can buy

A friend of mine just purchased one a couple of months ago in mint shape it was in the $1000 area, I've shot it and it's truely a fine target pistol..

Very very nice would not mind having one myself.. good find

An excellent pistol, with a reputation for rewarding focused performance from the shooter with outstanding accuracy, and punishing lacklustre performance just as severely. As you say, wadcutter bullets only, normally with light loads. It is a bullseye target pistol, not really intended for anything else, so that's what you should intend to use it for.

Thanks for the reply's everyone. It has its original manual and is in flawless condition. The owner is including a substantial amount of wad cutter ammunition as well so I think the price is reasonable.

If you buy, take very good care not to abuse the extractor. 52-1 uses the original wide extractor and they are completely unobtainable - no stock at S&W, nor any other place. Optimal load is 2.7 - 2.8 grs bullseye and 148 gr hollowbase wadcutter seated flush to the case. Don't even think about upping the load or you will destroy the gun in short order. One necessary addition to tame it's tendency to punish inattention is a frame weight. The originals are extremely expensive, but DPM products makes new ones at a reasonable price. Happy shooting.
