Smith + Wesson Revolver frame size question

Hi.
This is about round butt frames,not the square ones: I got a N frame 629-8.Looking for a wood grip, I removed the original rubber/plastic ones and found the metal frame part holding it rather tiny compared to the rest of the N frame. I got small hands, so the lower third of the grip is unused by me. I know for a fact that the main ( hammer ) spring is interchangeable between K, L and N frames...would that indicate same grip frame dimensions, just the amount of wood or plastic being different per model? It's a lot easier to come by K grips... Would be nice if one that owns both sizes could compare and chime in.

Place a WTB ad in EE looking for wood RB N-frame grips. I only have a Hogue, which is similar to the S&W originals.

Check out the Altamont site for their offerings. They ship to Canada if the grips do not have a logo on therm.

That is the question. And I'm not afraid to modify wood if its just a little...and not like carving new ones.

The newer model round butt like yours is quite a bit smaller rear frame than the old square butt, so you may able to make a K,L wood grip fit, I had a bill Jorden type harrett wood grip, but just sold it, that had lots of wood to work with.
I don't have a RB n frame to look at, I have a good wood factory set of K frame, but these are too much these days to start carving on, more so with original N frame target grips.
A belt sand and rotary tool, you may be able to grind those down a bit, BUT it go all to hell also, I would want a spare pair ,LOL.

I recently bought a set of Altamont grips off the S&W Forum to fit my 5" 686-6 RB. Excellent fit, feel good in the hands. Came as a "gift" so no taxes/duty.

Just ordered a set of Altamont "Bateleur" grips for a S&W "K" frame for $52 USD plus $6.10 shipping. That works out to $80.05 CDN.

In my experience with K-frame and N-frame stocks is the difference is up high at the horn of the stock. K-frame stocks, when fitted on an N-frame, will leave 1/8" to 3/16" of grip frame exposed high up near the hammer. I doubt an N-frame having a round butt would change this.

I fabricated some bases ( 3 holes ) that fit good with removing the metallic sight, mounted with a Shield mini 1 MOA / 65 MOA red dot.
