this may just be me but...
since i first started reloading these bullets, i'm noticing that the tip of the bullets are flat and some of them aren't. like some of them look like they weren't made properly. Picture a ballpoint pen for example, that is what a bullet should look like at the tip, some of the Sierra Match King 69gr bullets i have are not perfect but actually 1 side is higher than the other which causes measuring COL to change with a digital caliper.

does this makes sense? does it interfere with accuracy, or does it even matter.
i'm only shooting at 100 yards.

You will never notice the difference. Any difference in overall cartridge length (for functional purposes) will be irrelevant.
If you are loading these for use in a bolt action target rifle, and are concerned about the jump to the leade, base to tip length isn't too helpful - you want to know the base to ogive length.
This sort of minor irregularity is common, just part of the manufacturing procedure when the bullet is pointed up. There are meplat uniformers, if you want to clean the bullets up to complete uniformity. Tips will be evened out, at a slight loss of BC.
But for 100y shooting, there is no point worrying about it.

thanks for clearing that up for me. so what you're saying is that i won't notice a differnce in accuracy from my bolt action 223 @ 100 yards even if the bullet tips are uneven compared to being flat?

No appreciable difference.
If you inspect HPBT target bullets of most any make, you will notice slight irregularities in the tips.
The condition of the base of the bullet is more important than the tip.

:agree:

Handloader magazine, once did an experiment. They deformed bullets in everyway they could think of, including seating backwards. The ones with nicks in the bases, shot worse than the backwards loaded ones. All the ones with deformed tips, were not appreciably affected, even though they looked really silly.
