Hi!

Recently purshased an australian 1941 mk3 (H) action. I'm very lucky because in my spare parts I have all the australian woods furniture to put it full wood including a very good condition 1941 australian forend made on mk3 pattern.

The problem is for the bedding. The forend is cut for the original diameter of a .303 barrel and I have made lot of research but I wasn't able to find any information about how to bed the free flotting heavy barrel inside the forend.
I know I will need to remove woods inside but where is the contact spot I need to keep? someone have an idea?

Thanks a lot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tripower: I put one in a new forend recently. I chiseled out the channel to get full float forward of the reinforce, including at the tip of the forend. Opened out the nosecap opening as well. From the many threads on H-barrel bedding on different forums it seemed the easiest way to go but it certainly isn't the only approach that has been used by the target fraternity. Mine worked out quite well and is showing signs of wanting to shoot very well.

One thing that I found that helped was to plan to use the brass blocks on the draws. That way you can chisel the wood on the draws on your new forend down far enough to allow the barreled action to settle into the forend- quite helpful as you attempt to figuer out how much wood to remove from the barrel channel. The brass blocks also allow for accurate fine-tuning of contact with the draws on each side using shims behind the block. I attached photos of my rifle, including a shot of the inside of the forend after wood removal. As with the originals, I plugged the now unused inner band hole.

Good luck with the project!
