This may have made the rounds before, but it's still pretty damn awesome to watch -

Good old Eric from Moss Pawn and Gun (Iraqveteran8888) blasting off 10 rounds in 6.5 seconds with his trusty SMLE.

Nice rapid fire, but did he hit what he was shooting at?

IIRC the record - fired by Sergeant Major Jesse Wallingford in 1908 - is 36 hits on target set at 300 yds. Supposedly, Sergeant Instructor Alfred Snoxall hit 38 hits at 300 yds in 1914, but there's little (if any) documentation to support this.

I'd like to give this a whirl myself, but the ammo is too costly!!! (and I haven't reloaded enough of it yet, been too busy reloading pistol ammo).

id like to say that there was no apparent recoil from the rounds he was firing, there should be considerably more recoil. i still would not wish to be in front of that however.
i have seen some very good mad minute shooting at EOSC by some decent shooters, 40 shots in a minute with about 30 ish on target.you guys know who you are.
it must be remembered that this would have been fired either with volley sights indirectly at targets unseen at or past 1000 yds or at 100+- yards at massed troops charging across no-mans land. read up on your history, boys.

Regarding the Britishmuzzleloader video, there's not much point using the middle finger trigger pull if you plan to pause between shots to aim for as long as is done here. The middle finger method allows you to fire almost automatically as the bolt is turned down. If you're going to pause between shots might as well use normal technique. There were actually test rifles created that automatically triggered the shot as the bolt was closed- Skennerton shows a picture of a carbine with the device. It would be interesting to see just how much accuracy could be achieved using the technique demonstrated by the guy shooting blanks- probably not great.

Not that impressive. For a mad minute you have to start with the magazine loaded with 5rds not 10rds. Secondly he is using blanks which doesn't prove anything but he can cycle a action fast.

My personal record for the mad minute was 22rds from a P14 at 100m all on target in a minute. I haven't tried my Enfield yet, maybe next time I go shooting I might give it a shot.

I actually use my ring finger to pull the trigger when doing the mad minute. In regards to doing that over doing the 'standard' configuration that is much faster. You still have to aim a bit to keep it on target (otherwise you just wasted a shot lowering your score and time for nothing). You can't afford to waste the time to get your hand into a regular shooting stance as every faction of a second counts. In my case for 22rds that was 4 reloads in there as well as aiming and shooting. If I was repositioning my hand it would have been slower and I would have had less rounds off.

British Army Rifle Team taught me how to rapid fire the #4 Lee Enfield.
It's also in the books Shoot To Live by Col Johnson and Mastering The Service Rifle by Sgt George West.
