is there a way to tell a difference between Nr1, Nr4 and Nr5 magazines?
A friend's neighbor brought a Nr5 rifle to us while we were deer hunting, with a feeding problem he couldn't figure out how to fix. Pretty quickly I figured out the mag was not seated properly leading to misfeeding, pretty easy fix if you can find an actual Nr5 mag, or just weld on extra material onto the mag itself (I did not voice that option in fear he may actually do that)
dont know what the prices are for spare mags for SMLE so just want to spend money once, if there is a way to tell which gun the mag belong too

No. 1 SMLE is on the top. Ribs go all the way to the bottom of mag. No. 4 stops before bottom.
Rear of mags are also different. The SMLE has an extra spring at the bottom. Most have a No. 4 below the spring, variation no. 4 for the SMLE.

are there some issues with fitting the mags between the two rifles? I don't recall which mag it was but it definitely was "wiggly" in the mag housing
They're all hand fitted rifles made by many different manufacturers made for different bullet types. You can adjust the feed lips slightly if needed.
