Anybody have any experience with smokeless in the 45/90. Loaded for 45/70 lots just getting going on this one. Strong high wall thinking heavy bullets to keep gopher heads down.

Ya, I’ll just have get to the range with loading equipment and a chrony Hoping to find some slower burning case filling loads. Not looking for high velocity.

Thanks for the replies. I’m going with my previous 45/70 loads plus a bit. Not looking for max velocities. Been reloading for 35 years, just bought my first black powder!

For years I have loaded ammo. for my original Win. 1886 , .45-90 . They have a slow twist ( 1 in 32") so 300 gr. bullets are needed
NOT heavier ones. My load uses cheaper & more available .45-70 cases . Lead bullets from RCBS Mold # 45-300 FN , with gas check .
24 gr. of 2400 powder with WLR primmers. Velocity is 1400 f/s. & groups inside 3" @ 100 yds.
