Was doing some shooting, fired some Federal Tru Ball for the 1st time, literally a cloud of smoke.

It do this for anyone else or was it just the box I got?
 
I use to shot a fair bit of the Federal Classic Hi Brass, I don't remember it being like that, same with their Buckshot.

But the Slugs, don't think I've ever seen a bigger cloud of smoke except from Black Powder.

It shouldn't be absurd like that. I don't remember how smoky buck or premium shot shells were but all their slugs and cheap target shells are much smokier than others. Funny smell too, reminds me of marshmallow. Any chance the shells got wet at any point? I bought some flats that spent time underwater and they were very smoky.
 
Since I bought them in the last year from CT they only sat in my locker.

I've got another box purchased at the same time, I'll keep and eye on it.
 
Are we talking about the 12ga Law Enforcement 438gr Truball Tactical? If so I took that to the range once, and after 5 shots in my 12ga SA, I thought I may have left too much grease in my barrel or action...it wasn't so much smoke that you think the Vatican just picked the next pope, but it's definitely more than the typical Rem Sluggers or the Score Low Recoil Slugs. Even the el cheapo Challenger slugs don't do that. I haven't used them since, but I have hundreds more boxes of these (bought at one of our site sponsors) so I should try these again to see if it's a feature, not a flaw.
