Does anyone know of a manufacturer that sells a semi auto, smooth bore (with interchangeable chokes), 22" to 24" long barrel with iron sights (or ghost rings)instead of a rail? Winchester had the Super X2 Practical MkI in their catalog, but the regional Win rep has told me they are not making them now, and when I went back on line, they were off the website. It was perfect... anyone know if I could get the same barrel on the Super X3 Composite or Field?

No luck... the Winchester was not allowed into the country. The FN (exactly the same) is sold here as a police and LE shotgun, and I tried contacting the supplier, with no luck.

Perhaps I am out of line, but it seems a no brainer to have what I am looking for as part of the line up. Just take the smooth barrel with screw in chockes and sights and add to an SX2 or SX3 action... like in my adjusted photo...

The issue seems to be the 8 shot capacity... but when you look at most shotguns, they are usually a 5 shot capacity but plugged to meet our regs. Why can't they ship these plugged?
 
5 shot semi is the legal limit for a firearm, 3 shot is for hunting, hence the plug. 8 shot is simply illegal, installing a removeable plug i dont think is acceptable.
 
After looking further, the pumps are unlimited except while hunting, which is three, while the semis are 5 and three like you said... So I guess your right. They need to make it in a non-extended version.
 
I think "shelby" on the EE has been trying to sell a short barrel for a Beretta 391. IMHO that would make the ultimate short barrel semi auto. I can't remember if it had sights or chokes but you may want to PM him to find out.
