Just got my Bond Arms Snake Slayer IV from Kodiak in the mail today and had her out to the range already!
Wow, is that a fun little gun! I was impressed with the heft of the pistol right out of the box. It's not heavy, but all the weight is right there, concentrated in the palm of your hand. The fit and finish is beautiful.
The barrels lock up tight with no movement, and unlock with a flick of the lever. You don't have to fight it open and closed. With just an extractor, the shells don't come popping out, but early on they did drop out easily. After firing a bit, alternating between .45 Colt and .410 shotshells, they won't drop freely. You have to drag them out. Not hard, just dirty chambers.
I was firing my .45 Colt reloads. 250 gr RNFP over 5.0 grs Trailboss. A nice bang, not overly heavy on the recoil and non-abusive to the hand. There's not a lot of grip there, even with the extended grips it came with. Now, the .410's were an eyeopener
. The 2½" barked and jumped noticeably, with the recoil starting to sting the hand after just a few rounds. Tried some 3" shells........ouch! After just 4 of them, I had to take a break and rest the hand.
Accuracy......what can I say about this? The barrels are 4¼" long, with only the last inch actually rifled. At 5 yards, I was hitting an IPSC, but not punching out the center
. I forgot to take my camera to show the "pattern"
, but don't plan on shooting Bullseye with it. At distances past 7 yards (hell, past 5 yards), there's large holes in the shotshell patterns. I was using #4 and #6 shot.
The trigger is something to get used to. On the website, it ways to pull back and down. They mean it! It is heavy, has a pronounced downward travel, and feels very awkward the first few rounds.
All in all, a very fun gun that will get taken out a lot. Was going to have some pics of it later, but it looks just like they show on the web.
