I'm in the process of restoring a Mk.II 3 band Snider. Overall, it's not in too bad a condition and I've been sourcing parts to get it put back to rights. I picked up a seriously messed up "donor" carbine for cheap but I hit a little snag. I never knew the brass butt plates were different sizes. I'd assumed the butts at least had the same dimensions and it was only the forestocks that were different between the cavalry and cadet carbines. As it turns out, the butts were slightly smaller so the butt plate off the carbine is too short for the butt of the 3 bander. So, a "heads-up" to my fellow gunnies. If you're sourcing old parts, take a tape measure. BTW, if anyone knows of a "parts" gun going begging or someone who needs the butt plate and screws for a Snider carbine, let me know. I sent an email to IMA since they have parts and I don't think there's any problem in cross border shipping of antique parts. Unfortunately, they never got back to me.

Bloody hell Lawrence, I would've held on to my Mk.II** if I had known you were gonna open this can of worms. Sold it at the Orangeville show the one day I caught you there.
