Snipe Hunters Wanted.

Snipe are very common on the salt flats here in NB, and while they are on the migratory bird licence, not many here hunt them.

They are about the size of a woodcock, are very fast, and would be very challenging to shoot, if you were so inclined to do so.

........especially with the flashlight in your mouth. :D

The old sack and flashlight joke never was funny, surprised it has lasted so many years and keeps coming up! Snipe are the most challenging gamebird of all to hit with a shotgun - whoops, that may not be correct: I never shot at a dove, they're not legal here in SK. All you guys who make fun of snipe shooting, try it some time. They are FAST and dip, dive and zig-zag like crazy. We have a limit of ten. Never got more than 8 yet, but I've shot more than a box of shells a time or two. I average 70-75% on sporting clays and about 20% on snipe. The tiny little beggars seem like a great trophy when you finally connect. taste good too, as an appetizer for the main course 'cause they aren't big enough to make a meal of. Pointing dogs can be trained to point snipe but they often don't like to retrieve them. Must taste funny to them. Make fun of me if you like, but I keep some steel 7's in my duck coat whenever i'm out in our prairie pothole country.
