Sniper comp

I'm partial to a scenario type match where teams are put through different situations. In my idea match you show up to a preplanned grid. Teams get a welcome and a briefing. Camping in a main area would he best. All teams start at the main area and are given a grid reference and a time they have to make it to. Only one team per scenario at a time. On the go they head out and go to the location on the map where they are met by a "partisan/actor" who gives them the challenge. Once finished they head back to the main area where they start over again and head out to another location. Shooting is all ukd. Some events are non shooting. Ranging, target detection, kims games etc. There would be lots of steel and scores are either hit or miss judged by the actor/range guy.

my idea of a perfect day :)

double tap, might as well use the post...

orienteering
steel gongs
unknown distances
KIM and induced stress
use only what you carry
defensive pistol or carbine, spotter element or both
limited exposures
keyhole/thread the needle
camouflage/concealment would be nice if possible
forced communication scenarios (sniper spotter teamwork advantage)

You may wish to check out the Canadian International Sniper Competition, which inspired the US Army to start there own.

Just in case some are wondering about towers, we have approached scaffold companies many times about erecting towers at our club for archery and rifle competitions.
They can put them up fast and securely wth a large or small deck, and normally have no problem donating the material and men to get it done!:>)

Milcun ran the Argyll Cup last fall. Great competition, there were people from Canada and US. 10 stands, 2 man teams and you had to nav to all your points. You had to carry all you food, water and ammo. First stand was awesome no flags, unknown distance etc...

Keep the comp named `Sniper Comp`to annoy the Fudd`s and PC crowd ;-)

I prefer the word "precision rifle" competition because "sniper competition" involves doing a metric load of recce work before getting to fire one shot.

It is like running a cooking competition where the chefs only compete on arranging the cooked food on the plate. You can't really call it a cooking competition because the process of getting the food cooked and ready for putting up on the plate is completed skipped.

I like the way you think Longshot!! Just to add to the non shoot. and target detection.

Pull up into position and have to stalk into shooting position(nonshooting). identify what the spotters down range are holding (cue cards with letters) while stalking spotters try to pick out sniper and spotter timed event. If spotted, no points, start over, every subsequent attempt(time permitting) = deduction in points so that someone who gets caught 3 times and then completes mission doesn't get same score as someone who does it first shot.

Lots of precision tactical shooting matches all over the states that I would love to go to. I think the GA Precision match will be on my bucket list. Here's a video of some of that.

Another cool match is the Steel Safari.
Unknown distances.
Find range and shoot the targets from a designated spot all under a time limit.
One shot per target no mulligans.
Hike between targets carrying everything you need.

I'm just getting in to precision rifle shooting so right now I'm doing a lot of dreaming and as much shooting as time and money allows, but I think any of the ideas listed so far would make for a fabulous day.

Check out the name from my avatar, not sure if a link is allowed but a shameless plug for me and the rest of our group none the less. Our website is quite outdated, but oil patch guys only have so much free time, our apologies. You can also read an article titled Heavy Metal in I believe the April Alberta outdoorsmen mag. We are going into year 6 and growing almost beyond our means.

When is this years event? I'm in the area and this might be something I would attend.
I had seen your website before while skimming the interwebs. The pictures looked interesting but not much other information.
Is registration open to all or is there a range membership required? Cost to attend, prizes. Seperate rifle catagories or open class. Limited gear or whatever you can carry. What's the target distances and stage types?

There's an email on the website that you can ask to be added to, then you will get all the updates. It's on Saturday August.23rd. Next email out will be the pre-registration reminder. If you want in, I guarantee it will sell out in one day so pay attention and be ready.

No range membership required, usually everyone walks away with a prize valuing more than the entry fee. It's designed as a precision fire bolt action shoot but last year a couple AR's really held their own. You will fire precision shots at known and unknown distances out to 450yards on static and moving targets. Many different shooting positions and some aids available and/or required. The rules and events email should be coming out shortly. Pm me for a phone number if you want to chat more, that goes for anyone interested.
