I was wondering what kind of rifle is Marky Mark shooting at the beginning of the movie shooter when he makes the 1 Mile shot at the can of beans? I think its a 338 but what make is it?

i know it was a Cheytac but i think it was in 408 chey tack... The shorter firing pin replacement (the end of the movie) is a very good device for security purpose hein !!!

Yes, it was the .408 Chey-Tac.

Ask Longshot his opinion of that rifle........;) Good Cartridge, way too heavy and over-built.

In the scene with the attorney General, GrensVegter had to machine up an aluminum dummy Chey-tac for Marky-Mark to point around as the real one was too heavy for him to do that........................

awesome movie, if you buy the dvd you get a bonus dvd that goes through a run down of that rifle, its beautiful

Guess I have to buy the "Latest" release of the movie.............I bought it when it first came out and there was any "deluxe" version..............

But I did record Future Weapons when they tested the Chey-Tac.............pretty cool test..............just have to transfer it to DVD...........

I thought it was a 50 cal? I'll have to watch it again. The beginning was stupid. They have that big gun but waits too long to start shooting the chopper with it.

And the fact that it's semi-auto and he's cocking the Barret on every shot kind of sucks too. He could have just as easily let fly with the whole mag and it would have been so much cooler. From what I hear, the brass for the 408s isn't even being made right now nor are the machined brass bullets so the gun is dead. I like the concept of the retractable stock and the free float tube with bi-pod.

that movie was a joke for start to finish... so very bad... the 408 is a very bad gun as bad as the acting in the film... boy it smels...

From what Longshot has said, it looks bad due to how they edited the shot and pieced it together.............plus the fact that the helicopter kept blowing sh*t into the action and it was having stoppages.................

If you watch closely, the first shot cycled fine, then he starts cycling it by hand.

On an interesting side note, on the extra stuff on that DVD (if I recall), it shows M. Wahlberg receiving his training at 'Front Sight'... which has since been exposed as a scientology cult indocrination center and racketeering setup...

I think the movie would have been much more enjoyable to one who had no firearms knowledge or experience. Then the actors can throw out some bit of BS and the viewer will cheerfully swallow it.
If one wants to stick close to reality, he would not talk about 1 1/2" ten shot targets at 1000 yds. Why exaggerate? 10" is impressive enough and really happens.
At one mile, if one managed to hit a can of beans with a 408 Cheytac (an occurence which would be unlikely at best), it might not even bulge the can; let alone explode it. The reality would be more like this.... The shooter would fire somewhere around 30 shots. Some would hit close, some would hit disappointingly far away. He would soon discover he had to clean the barrel about every third shot because those stupid Lost River bullets fouled the bore so badly. Eventually he would manage to poke a bullet into the can. The sound of impact would be kind of a "poit". The can might tip over.
Most of the shooting done in this film was typical Hollywood imagination stuff. If I could get past that, I might have been able to enjoy the movie; bad acting and all!
I can enjoy a medical drama because I know virtually nothing about medicine. Hard to enjoy a shooting movie because I know a little bit about shooting. Regards, Bill

If you take a close look, it seems he slips a 30-06 sized round into a MASSIVE 50BMG sized port? I think it's the scene where they're in an office - I was de-burring case mouths when I saw this part of the movie so wasn't paying 100% attention!!!!

Take a look - it seemed like the proportions were way off....
